Municipal gallery

The municipal gallery of Piazza Armerina is occupying the west wing ground floor and the church of the "Monastero della Santissima Trinità" (the Holy Trinity Monastery), and it's located on one of the most important roads of the hystorical city: the Monte street.

The Monastery holds very important artworks from various municipal structures. Among all, stand out the "Madonna in Trono" (Madonna enthroned), a fresco from the church of Santa Maria di Gesù (Holy Mary of Jesus), and the Madonna con Bambino (Madonna with Child), icon dating back to the sixteenth century.

In the gallery there are also other artworks from municipal deposits, mostly dating from the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries.
The Monastery, belonging to the Benedettini, was built in the mid-fifteenth century. Today, its bigger part hosts an elementary school dedicated to the famous writer Luigi Capuana.
